Gimmer Lambs
North West Auctions J36 held its second sale of Mule, Masham and Continental gimmer lambs with an entry in excess of 1000 forward. Mule gimmer lambs of all sizes were eagerly bid for with the majority of lambs forward being running lambs. With an overall market average of £82.91.
Leading the way at £104 were Mule gimmer lambs from SJ & M Richardson & Son, Lupton. Other strong, bonny pens of lambs sold to £98 from D & D Huddleston and £95 and £94 from Forest Hall Farm Partnership. With better running lambs often selling in the £90 mark.
Continental gimmer lambs peaked at £95 from TH & D Cornthwaite & Son, Cartmel Fell. Masham lambs sold to a top of £80.
Store Lambs
The records keep getting smashed with the largest entry of 5,527 lambs in J36 to date. Trade remains very buoyant although it would be easier than the previous fortnight’s sale. Leading the way were Beltex lambs selling to £97 from RA Batty, Selside with others from the same home selling to £87. Other noted prices of Beltex lambs was £88 from Messrs Hodgson, Windermere who had two other pens at £83. At £83.50 was a pen of 52 Beltex lambs from Mason & Gardner, Chapel le Dale. Also selling to £83 were Beltex lambs from GN Robinson, Kirkby Stephen and WI Barrow & Sons, Dunnerdale.
Texel lambs sold to a top of £82 from BJ Bowness, Kendal. With others selling to £81 from SH Wightman, Milnthorpe. Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £83 three times from R & YE Pennington, Carnforth, PH Thornton, Scorton and AT Threlkeld, Satterthwaite. There were plenty of pens of short term keep store lambs readily selling in the mid to late 70s. Medium term Continental lambs continue to sell into the early 70s.
Upland lambs saw Cheviots sell to a top of £72 from W Atkinson & Son, Crook. Mule lambs peaked at £70 from RM & D Dixon, Longsleddale with other pens of Mules to £69.50 three times from Messrs Hodgson, Windermere, J Alderson & Son, Howgill and J Dixon, Flookburgh. Plenty of pens of strong Mule lambs were selling in the late 60s.
Horned lambs this week saw Rough Fells top at £66 from I & J Mallinson, Selside with plenty of pens of Rough Fell lambs selling around the £60 mark. Swaledale and Herdwick lambs saw a slightly easier trade this week selling to a top of £50 from D Wood, Bolton, with Herdwick lambs selling to a top of £50 from M R Toms, Langdale.
