J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Sale of Registered & Unregistered Blue Faced Leicester Rams and Females - Monday 5th October

The Annual Leicester sale at J36 had an entry in excess of 200 once again. The sale continues to grow in reputation with one of the best catalogued offering of rams seen and met with plenty of demand and eager bids.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions there was no pre-sale show but plenty of quality on offer. The sale twice sold to a top of £2,000. Firstly, for a much-admired tup lamb, Otterburn Lodge N011 from JA & R Caton, Otterburn. This lamb, full of renowned crossing lines, and sired by Otterburn Lodge K012. Also achieving £2000 was a powerful shearling from J Bell, of the Cottage flock selling a proven shearling, Cottage M028 sired by K013 Cottage.

Close behind this was the consignment of ram lambs from AC & K Pye & Son of the Emmets flock, selling Emmets N003 sired by the Highberries Hotshot H001 to £1,700 with others from this pen selling to £1,100 and £1,000. The consignment from RD Archer & Son of the Carry House flock sold to £1600 with Carry House N047 sired by G001 Highberries Highlander, with others in this pen selling to £1,200. Selling to £1050 was Tarnthorne N014 from RH & C Ayrton & Son, lambs from D Sharp of the Flodder Hall flock and Messrs Thornborrow & Sons of the Dawyck flock. At £1000 was lambs from T Ayrton and Son of the Hayshaw flock selling two sons of J035 Barley Hayshaw N009 and N001. Yore House N020 from JC & E Pedley & Sons, Barwick N012 from JH Pedley and Riddings N037 from WC Porter and Son all sold to £1,000.

The Sale continues to grow a strong reputation for selling shearlings and this year saw them all well bid for. The second top price shearling was £1,600 from D Sharp of the Flodder Hall flock with M001 sired by Hewgill K003, followed by £1,550 from James Taylor selling Lunesdale M033. At £1,400 was AJ Benson of the Rosshead flock with R Lawrence of the Bob-on flock selling shearling tups to £1,300 and £1,000. The consignment of powerful rams from AR Edmondson of the Hawkswell flock saw a much admired two shear sell to £1,500 and shearlings to £1,350. Also, at £1,000 was the pen leader from WJ Barker of the Keer flock.

The females at the start of the sale saw more interest this year than the previous year with the sale twice topping at £400 for gimmer shearlings from JC & E Pedley with Yore House M031 sired by Carry House L001. The consignment from Mycock and Bright of the Black Edge flock also sold to a top of £400. Gimmer lambs sold to a top of £200 from Josh Geary, Milton Keynes.
