Store Hoggs

A blazing trade throughout the sale for Store Hoggs at J36 today, with more desperately needed as buyers left emptied handed and short of requirements. There was 899 forward peaking at £95.50 for Texels from S Crayston & Co, Ulverston. This was followed by others Texels to £94.50 from PG Thornton, Scorton and £93 twice from S & A Gardner, Far Arnside and S Wood, Hawkshead. Suffolks topped at £92 from PG Thornton, Scorton. Many pens of short keep Continental and Suffolk hoggs sold in the mid to late eighties with medium keep hoggs regularly selling around the eighty-pound mark. Mule hoggs topped at £79 from JR Park, Ruslan and £78 from TW Gorst, Crook. Lonk hoggs peaked at £80.50 with Rough Fells to £76 from J & PR Woof, Sedbergh and Swaledales sold to £69 from RL & J Crowe, Ulverston and Herdwicks to £68. Small long-term lambs were an extremely strong trade with very few pens under £50. All store hoggs forward averaged £72.42.
