Prime Pigs
The dedicated sale for Prime Pigs saw an entry of 43 forward with a wide selection on offer.
Prime gilts sold to £111 for Saddleback x Pietrains from PK & R Woof, Stainton, who sold others at £108 and £104. Middle White x gilts from BR Harrison, Windermere achieved £100 with Large Whites from W Stamper, Chipping selling to £97. Pietrain x gilts from J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake sold at £92. Saddleback x gilts from D Baldwin, Satterthwaite sold to £82. Top pence per kilo today was 113p/kg from PK & R Woof.
Prime Hogs sold to £100 for Middle White x from BR Harrison, Windermere with Saddleback x to £88 from D Baldwin, Satterthwaite. Top pence per kilo achieved was 102p/kg achieved by D Lord, Preesall selling Large White x.
Prime boars sold to £92 for Large White x from C & J Bennett, Preston and Pietrain x from J Stott Jnr, Crosscrake. 115p/kg was achieved for Pietrains from J Stott Jnr.
All Prime pigs averaged 98p/kg with buyers cautious of overweight and over fat pigs.

Prime Hoggs
The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs saw a reduced entry of 867 in which more are required each week. There was an overall market average of 207p/kg with handy weight hoggs selling to 209p/kg. There was a very mixed offering of prime hoggs with a shortage of good quality hoggs this week.
Leading the way at 245p/kg was handy weight Texel hoggs from CB Heald & Son, Ingleton with other good conformation hoggs selling well into the 230p/kg range. All weight and specifications of hoggs were eagerly bid for today. The market topped at £124 for heavy weight Charollais hoggs from K & LA Woodhouse, Scorton. This was closely followed by £120 for Continental hoggs from RR & JA Knowles, Docker. Suffolks also achieved the same price from TA Teasdale, Grange-over-Sands with Mashams also to £120 from JE Read, Hutton Roof. The consignment of Texels from R Wilson, Appleby sold to £119.50, £119 and £118. J & R Waller, Killington also achieved £119 for Texel hoggs with JB Airey, Kendal selling to £118.50. Numerous other pens of heavy weight hoggs sold in the early one hundreds and teens. Mule hoggs sold to a top of £104 from JW & TE Sharp, Lyth with other 48kg Mule hoggs selling to £100 from EW & JR Parkinson, Dunsop Bridge. Horned hoggs peaked at £93 for Lonks from GJ Ibbetson, Roeburndale West.

Cast Ewes
There was a larger entry of Cast Ewes today which sold to a continued strong trade. Texel ewes sold to a top of £128 from GR & RA Surtees, Stodday. This was closely followed by Continental sheep from the Isle of Man selling to £120 twice and £119. Other Texel ewes sold to £117 from JC Walling & Son, Lyth followed by Beltex ewes to £115 from CB Heald & Son, Ingleton. Numerous more pens of strong Continental ewes easily sold in excess of £110. Leicester ewes topped at £105 from Messrs Hodgson, Windermere. Mule ewes peaked at £95 from DM & D Cook, Ulverston. Plenty of other pens of strong Mule ewes sold in the early nineties. Horned ewes peaked at £81 for Rough Fells from E & K Bland, Tebay closely followed by £79 from I & J Mallinson, Selside. Swaledale ewes topped at £75 from JW & TE Sharp, Lyth and £74 from RS & BA Harker, Holme. Herdwicks peaked at £70 from JD Benson, Langdale.
