1202 Prime Hoggs sold to an SQQ average of 208.89p/kg and an overall average of 206.28p/kg.
There was an excellent entry of prime hoggs on offer in NWA J36 which were met by a packed ringside of with no less than 12 buyers operating on 29 accounts and twice as many could have been sold on this flying trade. Today we sold sheep weighing 28kgs to 66kgs with trade and customers for them all and not just the ‘hand-picked in spec sheep’!
Plenty of sheep today sold over the £100 mark and leading the field was Ulverston vendor Owen Airey selling Suffolks to £121. Not far behind was S Kellet, Pilling also selling Suffolks to £120. Dave Dixon of Grayrigg sold Texels to £120. Staying with Texels, JB Airey, Kendal sold to £117 with DM & D Cook, Arrad Foot selling Texels to £116 and Suffolks to £114.
Leading the pence per kilo section this week was Messrs J Holme & Son, Ulverston selling Betlex hoggs to 243.2p/kg for 44kg hoggs. Beltex hoggs saw JH & PH Thompson, Selside sell 35kg hoggs to 242.9p/kg, PJ Onions, Arkholme sell 44kg hoggs to 238.6p/kg and RJ Gunn, Milnthorpe sold 42kg hoggs to 236.2p/kg. Mr MA Barnes, Whinfell sold Texels to 232.2p/kg for 31kgs with P & TL Edmondson Ltd, Kirkby in Furness selling 38kgs Texels to 230.3p/kg. TE, JS & SA Carruthers, Underbarrow sold Charollais to 220p/kg.
Native bred lambs sold really well with Scottish Blackfaces from Williamson Bros, Ulverston selling a pen of 25 39kg hoggs to £83.50 or 214p/kg. Rough Fells sold to 202.5p/kg from AJ & CM Harrison, Kentmere and 202.5p/kg from AEA Harrison, Kentmere. WI & AM Atkinson, Bleasdale sold Dalesbred hoggs to 202.5p/kg for 40kgs and Swaledales to 197.4/kg for 38kgs.
Mules were met by a great trade with Messrs J & J Huck, Burneside selling 51kg hoggs to £98.50, Daren Hodgson, Lancaster sold Mules to £98, NJ Strickland & Son sold to £94 and M & C Booth, Kentmere sold hoggs to £93.

A tremendous entry of ewes on offer met an ‘Electric’ trade with 11 buyers at the ringside. Our averages today would mean nothing with 27% of our entry Welsh Hill ewes, 20% Swaledale and 25% Mule.
Suffolks led the today with James and Caroline Airey, Ulverston selling to £152, Elizabeth Needham, Stainton sold Suffolks to £149 and TA & JA Dixon, Yoad Pot sold to £132. Long distance traveller Ben Nichols, Warwickshire sold Suffolks to £119. James and Caroline Airey also led the Texel trade selling to £140 with S & A Bland, Gaisgill selling to £138. S Thompson of Flookburgh sold Texels to £133 and E Dodson, Kendal sold to £127. PK & R Wood, Kendal sold Texel ewes to £126, R & ME Sutton, Stainton sold to £125 and RA Batty, Kendal sold to £124, twice. Beltex ewes from RT & ME Sutton sold to £113.
Mules, again, saw a flying trade with PK & R Woof selling to £106, Liz Needham also achieved £106 with John Bell, Wennington selling to £105, R & J Dodgson, Natland selling to £101 and TA & JA Dixon selling to £100. Bluefaced Leicester from WJ & LA Barker, Arkholme sold to £118 with E Parker selling to £114 and JR & KA Hodgson selling to £106.
A strong entry of Swaledales and, again, an extremely fast trade was seen. WJ & LA Barker sold to £77, Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale sold to £76, R Lawrence, Grange-over-Sands sold to £75 and E Parker, Lancaster sold to £71 and GA Lambert, Gatebeck sold to £70. Cheviots from HR & KA Hodgson sold to £98. Rough Fell ewes saw E & K Bland sell to £89 with S & A Bland selling to £86.
A decent show of tups forward and just like the ewes a great trade was seen. Texels from D & A Nicholson, Ulverston sold to £129, staying with Texels TE, JA & SA Carruthers sold to £128. MG Poynter, Crook sold to £121, again, for Texels with DC Miller, Claughton on Brock selling Suffolks to £108 and B & HM Wilson, Selside selling Swaledales to £91.
