J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: In-Lamb Sheep & Store Hoggs - Thursday 13th February

Breeding Sheep

The February breeding sheep sale had in excess of 350 forward attracting plenty of interest selling to a buoyant trade. Mixed age Mule ewes scanned in-lamb at over 200% to the Suffolk tup due March sold to £145, £142, £140 and £130 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton. Masham ewes from the same home sold to £128 twice. The consignment from MG & WD Burton, Barnard Castle saw Mules, due in April, sell to £128 and £124 with plenty of others selling around the £120 mark. Swaledale ewes scanned in-lamb to the Leicester sold to £100 and £90 with many pens in the mid-eighties. Mule gimmer hoggs scanned at 150% from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe sold to £115 and £112. Other Mule gimmer hoggs sold to £110 twice from Ms J Bentham, Windermere.

The flock dispersal of the adult proportion of Herdwick breeding sheep from G Armstrong, Nibthwaite attracted plenty of interest. Pens of five mixed age Herdwick twice selling to £90 with others to £80 and £70. Empty Mule gimmer hoggs sold to a top of £100 from N Brown, Littledale.

Store Hoggs

There was an entry of 700 Store Hoggs selling to a continued strong trade. Leading the way was strong Suffolk hoggs from Messrs Robinson, Old Hutton selling to £121. Texels sold to a top of £108 from PG Thornton, Scorton. Also achieving over £100 was JT & A Armistead, Selside selling to £102 with Suffolks. At £100 was Cheviots from JE Swan, Grange Over Sands with Texel tups to the same price from B Clark, Grange Over Sands. The consignment from S Crayston & Co, Ulverston sold to £99.50 and £98 for Texels with numerous more pens of Continentals selling in the nineties. Mules topped at £90 from N Brown, Littledale with Herdwick x to £90 from Messrs Robinson. Horned hoggs also topped at £90 from S & W Dickinson, Tebay. Medium keep hoggs were regularly selling around the £80 mark.

There was an overall market average of £72.68.
