Prime Lambs

The was an increased entry of 1109 prime lambs forward, selling to a market average of 165p/kg. The sale included the annual Belting Beltex show for pairs of prime lambs which was kindly supported by Northern Beltex Club, in preparation for their annual sale on Monday 16th September.

Thanks go to our pre-sale judge, James Cookson for his time and expertise. The Championship rosette was awarded to Abigail Winn of Burneside with her pair of lambs weighing 47kg selling to £101, purchased by Michael Lomax on behalf of Dales Butchers of Kirkby Lonsdale, whom also purchased the third prize lambs from the same home, also selling to £101. Second prize was awarded to JG & PH Thompson of Selside selling to £82. Other Beltex lambs sold to £90 from the same home with the consignment from Abigail Winn of Burneside selling to £95.

Heavy weight Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £91 from R & J Dodgson of Natland, with other heavy weight Suffolks selling to £89 from KE Richards and Son of Howgill. Heavy weight Texels sold to £86 from G & SA Edmondson of Holme, closely followed by £85.50 from HR & KA Hodgson of Barbon. Heavy weight lambs sold into the early eighties. Masham lambs sold to £75.50 weighing 47kg from BD Gill of Ingleton, with others to £74.50 from JA Bennett of Longsleddale weighing 44kg. Mules sold to £74.50 weighing 46kg from TA & J Dixon of Selside with other Mules to £73 for 44kg Lambs from B & SE Carter of Ellel. Lambs lacking finish where penalised today.

Cast Sheep

There was an increased entry of 515 cast sheep forward this week, with a very mixed entry of sheep forward. Leading the way was Charollais ewes from AJ & SE Burrow of Milnthorpe with Texels selling to £94 from Henry Knowles of Docker. Other Texels sold to £91 from DR & C Galbraith of Grayrigg, with plenty more selling into the eighties. Cheviot mule ewes sold to £80 from R & J Moorhouse of Lindale and £78 from HR & KA Hodgson of Barbon. Mule ewes sold to £74 from AW Crowe of Witherslack, with best Mule ewes selling around the seventy-pound mark. Horned sheep topped at £71 for Rough Fells from W & J Penny of Kirkby in Furness with plenty of fit horned ewes selling around the fifty-pound mark.
