845 Sheep at Lancaster today sell to a top of £103
Prime Lambs
There was an entry just short of 500 Prime Lambs at Lancaster today. Well-bred, good meated type of lambs were a strong trade topping at 206p/kg or £103 for a pair of Beltex x lambs weighing 50kg from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale with others at 200p/kg. Other Beltex x lambs from AG Butler, Hambleton selling to £86. Other Beltexs from young shepherds Robert & Josh Standham sold to £85. Texels topped at £84 from JM & MH France & Son, Little Dale with others from AG Butler selling to £83. Suffolks topped at £79 today for heavy weight lambs from RS & IM Kellet, Cockerham. There was a large entry of Mule and Mashams on offer today which saw Mules sell to £71.50 from PD Pye, with others to £70 from AC & K Pye, Abbeystead. Well-fleshed Mashams from DM Eames, Abbeystead topped at £70.
Cast Sheep
There was a larger entry of 114 ewes today, which saw an improved trade. Topping the cast trade was a Charollais tup from J Burr, Quernmore making £94. Ewes topped at £80 for a Teeswater from DM Eames, Abbeystead. Mule ewes saw keen bidding topping at £77, also from DM Eames. Well fleshed Swales from KM & KJ Curwen topped at £60. All cast sheep today sold to an average of £57.
Store Lambs
There was an entry of 235 Store Lambs today with a ring full of buyers all keen for lambs. Topping market today was Myerscough College, Bilsborrow with Texel x lambs selling to £68. Smart Cheviot x Texel lambs from SE & J Gorst, Little Dale topped at £63. Mule lambs today topped at £51.50 from G Faraday, Bleasdale with others to £51 from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale. Small long keep lambs were sought after today with Beltex x lambs from IT Richardson topping at £55 with others to £46.50 from MG & WD Burton, Boldron.
Store Lambs today sold to an average of £56.50.
