Prime Pigs
The Sale of Prime Pigs saw the strongest trade seen for several sales with a full compliment of buyers forward, all eager to buy pigs to fulfil orders. The sale commenced with a large white cull sow from A Taylor, Skelton which sold to a near record breaking price of £190 (84p/kg) A full row of prime pigs followed with heavies selling to £165 for a Duroc x Gilts from DC Morley, Aberdeen who sold other gilts at £158. Heavy weigh boars, again, from DDC Morley sold to £162 with others to £155 from W Stamper, Chipping. Heavy weights sold to 144p/kg for Duroc x gilts from DC Morley with boars to 141p/kg from W Stamper. Medium weight pigs sold to a staggering £170 for a Saddleback x hogg from PK & R Woof, Kendal with Large White gilts achieving £158 from W Stamper. Top pence per kilo was 189p/kg from PK & R Woof, who sold Pietrain x gilts to 172p/kg. Lighter weight pigs were fast selling today, achieving a top price of £160 from Large White x gilts and boars from WE Gregson, Preston with Saddleback x hoggs achieving £155 from D Baldwin, Ulverston. A top price of 192p/kg was achieved by WE Gregson with others at 183p/kg from PK & R Woof.
All pigs averaged 154p/kg, vendors are strongly encouraged to enter pigs for the next sale on Tuesday 10th December to include the Christmas Show & Sale of Pairs of Prime Pigs.

Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime Lambs had an entry of 1196 forward which saw all types of lambs in strong demand this week selling to an overall market average of 189p/kg with an SQQ of 193p/kg. Handy weight lambs weighing between 32-39kg average 197p/kg. Beltex lambs topped the market at 237p/kg weighing 41kg grossing £97.50 from L Beck, Endmoor with other Beltex lambs selling to 230p/kg or £99, this was closely followed by 227p/kg from SP Pease, Kirkby Lonsdale. 226p/kg was achieved numerous times for Beltex lambs from PJ Onions, Arkholme, J BL & I Ellis, New Hutton, WJ & L Barker, Arkholme. Texel lambs sold to a top of 235p/kg from RH M & S Boyren, Ulverston with better conformation Beltex and Texel lambs often selling around the 220p/kg.
Lambs sold to a top price of £112 for Beltexs from MW & MR Black, Staveley. Other Beltex lambs sold to £102 from PJ Onions, with numerous more pens of best conformation and heavy weight lambs sold around the £100 mark.
Cheviot lambs sold to a top of £94 for heavy weights from Forest Hall Farm, Selside with Leicesters achieving the same price from WJ & L Barker. Heavy weight Suffolks sold to £93 from JM Sedgwick, Sedbergh. Mule lambs sold to a top of £87 for heavy weights from RI Dixon, Low Newton followed by £84 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton with plenty pens of Mules selling in the early eighties. Herdwick lambs sold to a top of £74 from H Cook, Witherslack with Dalesbred Lambs selling to 200p/kg or £72 from R Capstick & Son.
Well-fleshed light weight lambs weighing between 32-37kg were in strong demand today, with more required.

Cast Ewes
There was an entry of exactly 400 ewes and tups forward today selling to a continued strong trade. The trade topped at £102 from Kerry Tyson, Marton with other Suffolk ewes selling to £98 from J & H Bland & Son Ltd, Levens. Texel cast ewes sold to a top of £98 from PK & R Woof, Stainton with others selling to £95 from RJ & KR Wilkinson, Levens with plenty more pens of strong Continental ewes selling around the £90 mark.
Mule ewes topped at £82 three times from E & A Thompson, New Hutton, TW & C Shepherd, Underbarrow and TE, JS & SA Carruthers, Underbarrow with plenty more pens of strong Mule and Masham lambs selling towards £80. Hill bred ewes saw Cheviots sell to £78 and £73 from J Allonby & Son, Grayrigg. Horned ewes sold to a top of £67 for Rough Fells from EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg with Herdwick ewes selling to £65 from A Belfield, Stoke-on-Trent. Swaledales sold to £61 from WI & A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Plenty of pens of strong horned ewes regularly selling around £60 mark.
Cast rams sold to £99 from PK & R Woof, Stainton with Leicester tups sold to £92 from WI & A Atkinson, Bleasdale with horned tups selling to £80 for Rough Fells from MCL Hodgson, Longsleddale.
