North West Auctions J36 Rural Auction Centre held its annual show and sale of Suffolk Females kindly sponsored by the North West Suffolk Breeders Club including Multi Breed females. There was a great buzz with plenty of interest ensuring a buoyant trade throughout, with quality sheep in strong demand. The pre-sale show was judged by Matthew Horner of Scorton whom we thank for his time and expertise. The Championship rosette was awarded to Richard Batty, Selside with his ewe that was scanned in-lamb carry twins, this ewe had been successfully shown on the show circuit winning many championships. She was met with a lot of interest going onto to sell for the evenings top price 1150gns purchased by the judge.
Reserve champion was awarded to TA Blair, Thornton in Cleveleys with his gimmer lamb CWC:19:00290 sired by Irongray Black Magic, this stylish gimmer lamb went onto sell for 700gns with the second prized gimmer hogg from the same home, sired by Benrafton Barney Boy, selling to 400gns.
The consignment of pedigree Suffolks from J & C Airey, Ulverston with their Urswick flock always attract plenty of attention with this year no different. Their pen topped at 650gns for a Limestone Rocket sired gimmer shearling carry twins to Forkins Formula One. They then twice sold to 600gns both sired by Limestone Rocket carry twins to Urswick Rodeo whom is a son of former sire of the year Rookery Rodeo.
The consignment from R Hiddleston, Dumfries with the Irongray flock saw their pen peak at 650gns for a Rookery Perfection sired gimmer shearling carrying twins to Rookery Rooney. Others from the same good home sold to 580gns. Also selling in excess of 500gn mark was S & C Walker, Tarporley selling to 550gns sired by Lakeview Trojan carrying twins.
There was a high clearance rate for in lamb Suffolk sheep at this sale in which more could have been sold. In lamb ewes averaged £531.60, gimmer shearlings averaged £394.03 with gimmer lamb averaging £294.
Charollais sold to a top of 500gns from the annual consignment from John Stott, Crosscrake. This much-admired ewe sired by a Kirkhouse sire carrying triplets to Toby Norman. Other noted prices from the consignment saw a parkgate sired ewe sell to 480gns carry twins with a Marwood sired ewes carry twins achieving the same price. Charollais gimmer shearlings carrying Beltex lambs from RJ & J Towers of Ingleton sold to 450gns and 400gns. Charollais ewes averaged £415.50 with gimmer shearlings averaging £379.62.
Pedigree Texels twice sold to a top of 450gns from R Wilson, Appleby of the Eden Valley flock. Firstly, for an Eden Valley A1 sired gimmer shearling carrying twins to the renowned Knock Yankee and the other carrying twins to Eden Valley Captain America that had been successfully shown this summer.
