Lancaster Livestock Auction: Primestock & Sheep with Lambs - Monday 20th May

Spring Lambs

The weekly sale of Spring Lambs at Lancaster saw a larger entry forward of 512. There was more interest ringside with two fresh buyers forward which saw an overall market average of 220p/kg. Top price per head this week was £102 for Hampshires from S Blades, Arkholme. Beltex sold to £99 from BR & S Carter, Pilling Charollais sold to £98 from BD Wood, Out Rawcliffe who also sold Texels to £97.50. Charollais also twice sold to £97 from WM Pye, Ashton with Stodday and BR & S Carter. Suffolks topped at £99 from S Blades. Top pence per kilo was achieved by Charollais from BR & S Carter selling to 255p/kg purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers, Lancaster. This was closely followed by Beltex lambs to 254p/kg again from BR & S Carter. Texels sold to 252p/kg from G & D Ball & Son, Great Eccleston with others Texels to 249p/kg from W Bradley, Goosnargh. Plenty of pens of good conformation Continental lambs sold around the 240p/kg mark. Lighter weight lambs were in strongest demand today which saw 33kg Texel lambs sell to £83 and 35kg Texel lambs sell to £87.

Prime Hoggs

There was a smaller entry of hoggs this week as we come to a close of the hogg season. Topping the trade today at £97.50 was Texel hoggs from T & E Burrow, Slyne with Texel hoggs from J France, Pilling selling to £95 twice and Texels from R Collinge & Son selling to £90 and £89.

Cast Sheep

There was a smaller entry of 45 ewes forward this week in which more are needed to meet the strong trade we are currently enjoying. The consignment of Texel ewes from R Collinge & Son, Kirkham sold to £118, £114 and £98. Texel tups sold to a top of £108 from J Burr, Quernmore. A consignment of ewes from S Wilson & Son saw Texel ewes sell to £98 and £95 with Mule ewes selling to £85. Horned ewes saw Lonks sell to £80 with Swaledale ewes selling to £49 from S Park. All cast ewes forward sold to a market average of £82.97 with all tups averaging £100.50.

Sheep with Lambs at Foot

The weekly sale of Sheep with Lambs at Foot had a entry consisting of entirely hoggs with lambs at foot. Mule hoggs with lambs at foot from PD Anderton, Scorton sold to £155, £150 twice and £148 with Mule hoggs with Texel lambs from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton selling to £140.
