A seasonal entry of store cattle were forward for the last sale of 2019 which comprised mainly younger suckler bred cattle. Limousin x steers sold to £870 for an 11 month old from R & BJ Cleasby, Broughton in Furness with 13 moth old Aberdeen Angus x achieving £730 from R Cowin & Sons, Kirkby Lonsdale. Heifers sold to £765 again for Aberdeen Angus x from Messrs Cowin, with younger 6 month old heifers to £685 for Limousin x from Messrs Cleasby.
Several older cattle forward sold to £930 for Aberdeen Angus x steers from MJ Waller, Lupton who sold Hereford x steers at £905. Dairy bred stores sold to £675 for 13 month old Flekvieh steers from Messrs Cowin. Young bulls sold to £635 for 6 month old British Blue x from R Dick, Freckleton.
The next sale of store cattle will be held on Thursday 9 January 2020 to include the New Year Prize Show and Sale of Store Cattle competing for the Janet Gorst Perpetual Challenge Trophy. Entries for this sale close on Thursday 2nd January.
OTMs
OTM cattle sold to a top price of 129p/kg for a Hereford Cow from GM Redmayne, Ings with other beef cows selling for further finishing selling at 115p – 125p/kg. Heavy well finished dairy cows sold to a 124p/kg from JM Barton & Son, Lupton with others achieving 110p – 120p/kg. Mediums 92p – 105p/kg and ex-parlour cows 80p – 90p/kg.
Top grossing today was an Aberdeen Angus cow from JE & M Bell, Lowick achieving £1056. OTM dairy heifers sold to 94p/kg and £701 from R & J Dodgson, Natland.
The next sale of cull cows and OTM clean cattle will be on Thursday 9th January with a strong entry required to meet the demands of a full ringside of buyers.
