North West Auctions J36 held its annual Christmas show and sale which attracted a bumper entry of 150. There was a great show of calves for our pre-sale judge David Hodgson who we thank for his time and expertise. The Championship rosette was awarded to the first placed British Blue bull calf at 1 mouth and 2 days old from CG Birkett Carnforth. The Champion went on to top the sale at £395. Reserve Champion was the first placed British Blue Heifer from DR & C Galbraith Grayrigg, this sweet heifer went on to make £280 at 1 month old.

A full ringside of buyers ensured all classes were well sold, the strongest continentals looking value for money over younger sorts. Out of the show there was some great runs of calves forward. A Pickthall, Old Hutton showed a great month old British Blue heifer calf making £340 with bulls from the same good home to £305. JS & I Wilson Whitbeck had a run of Montbeliard and Flekvieh calves which were well bid for with a top of £235 with others to £220. Black and whites were similar to the last sale. The strongest £100-£110, medium rearers £35-£45 with the smallest £20-£30. A pen of 8 Black and white bull stirks sold to £210.
