Calves

A British Blue x bull from JR Handley topped today’s calf sale achieving £270 with other young beef bulls between £200 and £230. Top priced native bulls were £215 for an Aberdeen Angus x from Colby Farms Ltd. There was a shortage of heifer calves today with buyer’s ringside looking for future herd replacements. Best young heifers were selling £175 to £200 with youngest sorts £100 to £150.
Dairy bulls sold to £125 for Fleckvieh from J Scott & Co, nice medium rearers were £55 - £90. The youngest and smallest were less, all sold averaging £42.

OTM Cattle

Beef cows sold to 117p/kg or £888 for a Limousin x from SH Wightman with others selling between 95p/kg and 105p/kg and generally going for further finishing. Dairy cows peaked at 107p/kg for Fleckvieh from R Cowin & Sons and Hereford to 104p/kg from JM Barton & Sons. Medium dairy cows 80p/kg to 95p/kg with leanest and ex-parlour sorts less. All sold to average 80p/kg.

Store Cattle

Store cattle sold to £1000 for Aberdeen Angus x steers from TA & DH Knipe who also sold Limousin x steers to £895, heifers sold to £860 for British Blue x from M J Waller. Younger steers sold to £640 for Aberdeen Angus x from JE Harrison with heifers to £620 from J & M Wilson.

Stirks sold to £460 for Limousin x bulls from G Penellum with Hereford steers to £450 from HG Spensley.
