FLYING TRADE AT LANCASTER OCTOBER SHOW & SALE
The day’s trade at Lancaster October Show and Sale was a real reflection of the quality that was on offer throughout the sale and congratulations must go to all vendors for the great show on offer.
Our thanks must go to our judge for the day Andrew Bargh, Wood Close, Skelton who took on the tough task with great distinction. If anyone would be interested in judging please get in touch, it’s a really enjoyable experience whether you are coming to buy or would just like a day out.
There really would be no better place to start than with our overall Champion coming from H. Wright & Son, Berryholme who had a great line up and realised top price for both heifer and cow entries. The overall champion, Berryholme Beemer Annette, had style and substance in abundance oozing class. At just a touch over 2 years of age, having calved on 27th September and yielding 33.kg. Going back to the 6th dam and great EX95 Roobrook Annette. Highly sort after, bidding was tense with the hammer finally falling at £2,400 and going to our judge for the day Andrew Bargh. A stunning second calver and 1st prize cow of the day from the same good home; Berryholme Elude Jean GP83, came with great solids and certainly producing the goods at 43.kg having calved on 9th September. This animal caught many eyes and was secured by D & HE Colclough & Son, Bank Farm, Sandbach. Certainly in the mood and with a great eye they took home another classy and real milky second calver; Ravenscar Shottle Faithful 12 entered by J Huddleston, Ravenscar, Brookhouse. This genuine dispersal animal had real size and strength and producing 38.kg from big bale silage will no doubt go on and improve.
Regular vendor MJ & H Atkinson brought to the sale a heifer of real balance; Wyredale Mardi Gras Kathy 127 which had a lot of milk behind her and this heifer was continuing the family trait, having calved 26th September and realising 32.kg she finally went for £2,150.
It was good to see another strong line up from Drinkall Bros, Catshaw Hall Farm, Over Wyresdale who had a real consistent group of heifers entered with notable entry; Pennine Poppy 1375 recently calved and already realising 30.8.kg; catching the eye of many and going back to Cheshire with D & HE Colclough & Son.
On a day of such quality it would be unfair to not mention notable entries from regular vendors; Enchanted Holsteins, Gorstlea, Mill Lane, Preston, Sandcrest Appel 2 won 1st prize heifer in the heifer led class and overall reserve champion was snapped up by J. Harrison, Wickerfield Farm, Kings Meaburn. A real consistent entry from Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd including Bilsrow Jacey Peg, with a PLI £457 and EX90(2) dam she was a looking the part with a tremendous udder and hitting 39.kg and cruised to £1,910.
With such fierce bidding and competition many buyers left the sale empty handed and more entries are certainly required to fulfil demand.
