Pigs
The monthly sale of all classes of pigs saw 96 forward. Prime Pigs sold to a top of £125 for 80kg Hogs & Gilts from J Corlett, Setmurthy.
Prime Boars sold to £120 from HM Wymott, Leyland with all classes of Prime Pigs selling to a sharper trade than the previous sale. All prime pigs forward averaged £98.
Cast Sows sold to £55 from A Fox, Eskdale Green.
A large entry of Weaners were forward today, which sold to a stronger trade seen for some time. Pietrain x topped the sale at £68 from AJ & EJ Platt of Ulverston with others selling to £55 from the same home.
Prime Hoggs
The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs saw a reduced entry forward with some vendors coming to the end of their consignments. Well-finished Hoggs saw a Beltex top the sale at £125 from JG Harryman, Hawskhead with others from the same home selling to £119 and £112. Topping the price per kilo was, once again, JG Harryman selling a pen of 40kg Beltex to 280p/kg. Plenty of Continental Hoggs sold over the £100 mark seeing Texels sell to £119 from JB Airey of Kendal and Suffolk Hoggs sell to £119 from F & CE Bentley of Shap.
Mule Hoggs sold to £101 for a pen from FI & ME Little of Barrows Green which was closely followed by £100.50 from J & CG Redmayne of Samlesbury and £100 from Redmayne Brothers of Blackburn. All Mules forward averaged £88.56.
Hill bred Hoggs sold to £98 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with Cheviots. Large pens of Scotch Blackfaces sold to £90 and Herdwicks to £84 both from Williamson Brothers, Newland. Swaledales sold to £81 from GM & A Jackson, Preston.
All Prime Hoggs forward averaged 208p/kg. Hoggs between weighing between 39kg and 45kg averaged 220p/kg , with 45-52kg averaging 219p/kg.
Cast Sheep
There was a bumper entry of over 500 Cast Sheep in the market today, with all classes selling to a strong trade.
Topping the trade was a Suffolk Ewe selling to £138 from J Woodburn & Partners, Ulverston which was closely followed by £134 from TC Altham, Kirkby Lonsdale. There was plenty of Continental Ewes selling over the £100 mark.
Mule Ewes sold to £100 from three vendors DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland, J & O Galbraith, Endmoor & B & D Willison & Son, Levens.
Hill Bred Ewes saw Rough Fells sell to £77 from C Head, Kendal. Swaledales sold to £70 from N Cooper & Sons, Torver who also sold Herdwicks to £56.
Cast Rams sold to £100 for Texels from J & J Huck, Burneside and also for a Teeswater from C Head of Kendal.
