Prime Hoggs

The weekly sale of Store Hoggs saw a reduced entry forward. Well-finished Hoggs were in strong demand and were eagerly bid for. Hoggs weighing between 39-45kg averaged 214p/kg, with 45-52kg Hoggs averaging 218p/kg. Overall the sale averaged 207p/kg.

Topping the day’s trade was a Suffolk Hogg from Benson Farms of Garstang selling to £123, who also sold a Texel to £117. Texel Hoggs weighing 45kg from AG Butler of Hambleton sold to a top of 238p/kg. There were plenty of pens of Continental Hoggs selling over the £100 mark.

Hill bred Hoggs saw a pair of Cheviots sell to £101 from Cardwell Farms of Poulton-le-Fylde, who also sold a pen of Mules to £97 and Horned Hoggs to £85.

Cast Sheep

A small entry of Cast Sheep forward this week saw all pens eagerly bid for. Texels sold to a top of £105 from S Wilson & Son of Scotforth which was closely followed by £100 from J & H Huddleston of Brookhouse. Mule Ewes sold to a top of £81 from PW & DW Roskell of Preston.
