Store Cattle
A larger catalogued entry of 343 Store Cattle were forward this week. A mixed show saw meaty and good confirmation cattle good to sell, with ones out of specification harder to place.
Selling to a top of £1360 was a pen of Charolais Bullocks from H Chapman & Son of Middleton.
Native Bred Cattle saw Aberdeen Angus Bullocks sold to £1280 from GE Turner of Inglewhite and also Hereford Bullocks sell to the same price from JB Moore of Allithwaite. Aberdeen Angus Heifers from J & M Cockett of Ingleton sold to £1200.
Black and White Bullocks sold to £1160 from JB Moor of Allithwaite.
The next sale of Store cattle at Lancaster will take place on Friday 19th January 2018, Entries to the office by 2pm Monday
OTM Cattle
There was an entry of 99 OTM Cattle forward this morning with all selling to a good trade. An overall average of 114p/kg was achieved.
Topping the Cast Cow market today was EE Thornton & Sons of Heaton selling a British Friesian to 164.5p/kg or GR Bargh & Co of Caton selling a Charolais Cow to £1376.55.
Cast Heifers sold to 189.5p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus from P & A Bell of Preston.
Calves and Stirks
There was a good entry of 60 calves and stirks in the market at Lancaster. The calf trade saw a buoyant trade for Continental beef heifers and bull calves. Native bred bulls were good to sell with heifers harder place this is in line with store cattle and the drop in premium on native heifers as well.
The trade topped for some cracking weanling Angus bull calves out of Montbeliardes from JK & B Birkett and Son of White Lund selling to £440 and £435. British Blue bull calves on milk sold to £370 from T & CM Kelsall & Sons of Brown Brook with Angus bull calves to £360 from D & K Haworth of Rose Farm. Limousin bull calves topped at £345 from JM & MH France and Son of Newhouse Farm. Fleckvieh weanlings sold to a top of £320 from JK & B Birkett and Son with a Montbeliarde from same home to £275.
There was more interest in black and whites today with weaned bull calves selling to a top of £260 from H Halhead and Son of Lawsons Farm. Rearing calves on milk topped at £120 from T & CM Kelsall & Sons of Brown Brook, and others to £100 from Drinkall Bros of Catshaw Hall farm.
It was great to have some more stirks on offer this week saw named sired Angus bullocks selling to £570 at 7 months old from PS & H Eckersley of Mellor with Montbeliarde bullocks from same home selling to £500 at the same age.
