Store Cattle

A smaller entry of store cattle forward with a large entry already promised for the sale on 25th January. It was great to have a couple of fresh store cattle buyers present for the sale today. Bullocks sold to a top of £960 for Limousin bullocks from J&J Postlethwaite of Bramaskew. Heifers looked a strong trade in comparison with April/May Spring born heifers selling to £730 from B & HM Wilson of Ashsteads.

Beef Breeding Cattle

There was large entry of over 50 beef breeding cattle forward in the market today. There was plenty of interest in the cattle but, many buyers cautious with the current forage situation and not wanting to commit to more cattle at this stage. British Blue heifers due to the Limousin bull in April topped the trade twice at £1200 from MJ Waller of Carlingwha. A consignment of Luing in calf cows from SJ & J Hodgson & Son of Tottlebank sold to £1120 twice. The herd dispersal of heifers and cows on behalf of JT Park of Oxen Park saw Limousin heifers sell to £1,120 and £1,100 due to the Charolais bull in spring and British Blue heifers selling to £1060

Calves and Stirks

The fortnightly sale of stirks and calves had an entry of over 60 forward. A sharper trade then expected with plenty of interest ringside with beef calves particularly good to sell. British Blue bulls sold to a top of £380 from E &SM Halpin of Rakesmoor Farm. Hereford bull calves sold twice to £330 from HJ Robinson & Son of Elm Trees Farm. Younger British Blue bulls sold to £320 twice from HJ Robinson & Son of Elm Trees Farm and JJ & MA Park & Son of Low Sizergh. British Blue heifers topped at £290 from Messrs Sowerby of Townhead Farm.

The next sale of store cattle will take place on Thursday 25th January 2018 with entries for the catalogue closing Wednesday 17th January 2018.
