Prime Lambs

A buoyant trade for all specifications of prime hoggs at Lancaster saw the market average 184p/kg with an SQQ average of 187p/kg. More hoggs could have easily been sold to the advantage vendors who are urged to take advantage of the good trades Lancaster enjoying. The trade topped at £95 for a pen of 10 heavy weight Texel’s from PD Anderton of Wyre Farm, closely followed by Texel’s from Andrew Butler of Park Farm Barn selling to £94. Suffolk hoggs topped at £92 from RD & L Cornthwaite of Humblescough Farm. Plenty of heavy weight lambs sold around £90. Export type lambs regularly selling around the 200p/kg mark today with them types of lambs short in supply. Mule hoggs sold to a top £84 from Andrew Butler of Park Farm Barn with 46kg hoggs with 41kg mules often between £77.50 and £79.50. Few more horned hoggs in the market topped at £75 from KM & KJ Curwen of Marshaw Farm.

Cast Sheep

A stronger entry of cast sheep in the market saw fifty on offer. Trade very dependent on how well fleshed the ewes were. Texel ewes sold to £80 from Mrs C Cushing of Staining. Cast tups sold to a top of £86 from James Burr of Quernmore.
