The largest entry of store lambs so far to date with just short of 2000 forward, a larger entry then previously advertised. There was the most interest ringside from buyers looking for all types of lambs with grass now coming through, everything was well bid for and more easily could have been sold to the advantage of the vendor.
Best meated, short keep lambs sold in excess of the £70 mark selling to a top of £76 for Suffolk lambs from GM Redmayne of Ings. Texel lambs sold to a top of £75 from C & J McWhirter of Tebay closely followed by M Stephenson of Newby selling to £74.50. Beltex lambs sold to £72 from DR Harrison of Selside. Well-grown Suffolk and Texel lambs regularly selling in excess of sixty pound with all Suffolk lambs forward averaging £62. Best Mules selling in excess of the sixty pound mark selling to a top of £67 from RI Dixon of Low Newton with all sizes of Mules selling to the best trade so far this season. All Mules forward averaged £56.58. The overall market average for store lambs was in excess of £57.
There was a few more horned lambs on the market today with more interest in them.
