Store Cattle

There was a smaller entry at the fortnightly sale of Store Cattle with many farmers busy lambing and others selling at our previous sale a couple of weeks ago. Limousin heifers sold to a top of £790 from SW Atkinson and Son of Crook, with yearling dairy bred British Blue bullocks to £770 from GM Strong of Penrith.

Calves

The fortnightly sale of Calves saw a larger ringside of buyers seen for some time at J36, with more looking to purchase Beef Calves with pens emptying due to lambing time coming to an end.

The trade for calves topped twice at £300, firstly for British Blue bulls from HJ Robinson & Son of Preston Patrick and then British blue heifers from JAH Walton and Son of Kirkby Stephen.
Angus bull calves sold to £295 from J & M Maudsley & Son of Endmoor and £290 from B Mallinson and Son of Levens. Plenty more beef calves easily could if been sold.

Rearing Black and White Calves were a sharper trade eagerly bid for topping at £135 and £120 from S Mawson and Son of Orton.

There was a handful of stirks forward with more needed to meet the current demand with grass day creeping ever nearer. British blue bulls sold to £405 from SI Porter of Grange over sands.

Cast Cows and OTM Cattle

The strong trade continues for OTM cattle with the majority of cows forward today being parlour cows.

Topping today’s trade was a British Blue Cow from S Procter, Selside selling to 154.5p/kg or a Fleckvieh from J & H Bland & Son Ltd, Levens selling to a top gross of £1078.23

Black and White Cows sold to a top of 149.5p/kg from AE & M Hayhurst, Natland.
