Sheep with Lambs at Foot

A few less ewes with lambs forward in the market today but the brisk trade continued especially after the poor weather over the weekend. A few more younger sheep now starting to come forward, sold to a top of £195 for Mule shearlings with Texel twins from NJ Strickland and Son of Whinfell, with other Mule shearlings and Texel twins from John Young of Lindale to £190. Broken mouthed Mule ewes with Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £175 from JF Cook of Witherslack.

More ewes and lambs required each week with 65 outfits booked in for Tuesday 10th April 2018.

Spring Lambs

There were no spring lambs forward this week but purchasers are expressing interest for next week, if you would like to discuss contact Ian Atkinson on 07766521472.

Prime Hoggs

There was a smaller entry of hoggs today with the strongest trade seen this season. An overall market average of 248p/kg or £102.07 was achieved, with hoggs weighing 39-45kg averaging 260p/kg. The trade topped at £148 for heavy weight Texel hoggs from MD & SA Park of Lyth Valley, closely followed by heavy weight Beltex hoggs from NJ Strickland and Son of Whinfell, selling to £143 with plenty of heavy weight hoggs selling in excess of £130. Best quality Beltex hoggs sold around 300p/kg, selling to a top of 313p/kg and 306p/kg from JG Harryman of Ambleside. Mules sold to a top of £118 for heavy weights from TE, JS and SA Carruthers of Underbarrow.

Cast Sheep

The strong trade continues, with ewes an even sharper trade this week then last. The trade topped at £160 and £157 for Texel ewes from J Stott Jnr of Crosscrake. Beltex ewes topped at £139 from RJ Willison of Levens, closely followed by £135 for Beltex ewes from DW Cottam of New Hutton. A consignment of strong ewes from W Garnett and Son of Milnthorpe topped at £137 for Texels with Mules from the same good home to £107. The Cheviot Mule trade topped at £133 from AR & C Fawcett of Gosforth. Mule ewes sold to a top of £112 from WT Whitaker and Son of Nether Kellet. Plenty of good Continental ewes were selling £120 plus and best mules around the £100 mark. The horned ewe trade equally as strong today.
