J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Store Cattle Thursday 23rd November

Calves and Stirks

A quieter entry than expected today due the dreadful weather conditions throughout the night and this morning, with some vendors and buyers unable to make it. There was atill a brisk trade for the calves forward, especially for beef bull calves and black and whites were well bid for. A young entry of beef bulls saw British Blues top at £315 from JW & D Robinson & Sons of Hollins Farm, closely followed behind by JM Barton & Son of Lupton Hall selling to £310 with beef bulls selling around the £300 mark. British Blue heifers sold to £230 from SJ & LM Towler of Birds Park Farm. Black and whites sold to a top £90 from GR Park and Sons of Low Deepslack with rearing types selling to £80 and bobby calves were well bid for, selling between £25 and £40 with all black and whites forward selling to an average well into the fifties.

Cast Cows and OTM Cattle

The fortnightly sale of cast cows at J36 had a similar entry of 50 forward for the sale, selling to a continued strong trade with an overall market average of 97p/kg achieved. Beef cows sold to a top of 147.5p/kg for a heavy weight Angus cow from RJ&J Gardner of Natland Mill Beck coming to a total of £1032.

Cast Limousin Bulls sold to 141.5p/kg or £1146 from J&M Wilson of Cooper House. Best Black and White cows sold to 121.5p/kg from B&MJ Nelson & Son of Halforth Farm, with other good meated black and white cows selling from 110-120p/kg.

Store Cattle

A small entry of Store Cattle today, following on from some big sales held at J36 saw yearling Luing Heifers sell to £600 and Bullocks to £530 from Messrs Westmoreland-Nicholson of Howe Farm.

British Blue - £315 Hollins Farm, £310 Lupton Hall, £300 Elm Tree Farm, £295, £270 Lupton Hall. Friesian - £90 Low Deepslack, £80 Hollins Farm, £70 Green Head, £65 Low Deepslack.

British Blue - £230, £220 Hollins Farm, £190 Townhead Farm. Hereford - £170 elm Tree Farm. Limousin - £120 Wraysholme Tower.

Bull Stirk:

Limousin - £490 Sunny Bank.

Heifer Stirk:

Hereford - £390 Old Syke House.

Store Bullock:

Continental - £530 Howe Farm.

Store Heifer:

Continental - £600 Howe Farm.
