Pigs
The monthly sale of pigs at J36 had an entry of 159 forward. The sale also included the Christmas show of Prime Pigs and out thanks must go to our judge Ben Holland and sponsor Norjac. The champion rosette, for the best pair of prime pigs, was awarded to PK & R Woof, Storth End, Stainton which later went onto sell for £175 to the judge. There was a bumper entry of Prime pigs forward which sold to a competitive trade and Prime Pigs sold to an average over £100.
Weaners topped at £30 from David Willison for a pen of 11. A very mixed show of Store Pigs topped at £48 for a pen of coloured stores from AJ & EJ Platt.
The next sale pigs will be on Tuesday 9th January.
Prime Lambs
There was a slightly smaller entry of Prime Lambs this week at J36, but they sold to a sharper trade. Heavy weight lambs were very good to sell topping at £98.50 for Texel Lambs from TE, JS & SA Carruthers, Red Scar for 58kg lambs. Beltex lambs sold a premium, topping at 230p/kg from JG Harryman, Hawkshead, with all Beltex Lambs averaging 208p/kg. Texel lambs were also selling to an advantage with TR Prickett, Hutton Roof selling lambs to £98.
There was an improved trade for Horned lambs in the market today, topping at £67 for a pen Swaledales from JF & AW Sutton, Nether House Farm.
Mules saw a top price of £82.50 achieved from F & SA Edmondson, Netherhouses Farm with others selling to £81.50 from WJ & LA Barker, Brown Edge.
Cast Sheep
Cast Ewes sold to an improved trade today with an entry of 454 forward. The sale topped at £109 for a pen of Texel Ewes from RT & ME Sutton, Crosscrake with other Texels selling to £98 from WJ & LA Barker, Brown Edge. Horned ewes also saw an improved trade from the previous week, topping at £66 for Rough Fell Ewes from JE Read, Millriggs with Swaledales topping at £48 JA Bennett, Middale Farm.
