North West Auctions held its annual show and sale of Mule and continental gimmer lambs, which once again attracted a good deal of interest. Mules enjoyed a good average, levelling at £161.38 (plus £35.76 on the year), with credit to our vendors on a marvellous show.
The pre sale show was kindly judged by John Bargh, Heaton and William Oldfield, Gisburn, while Hazel kettles, Penrith over saw judging off the best run. Thirteen quality pens of ten where out for the show and after much deliberation, the first prize rosette was awarded to a cracking pen from AC&K Pye, Dunkenshaw whilst W&A Cornall, Bank Farm were presented with first place pen of twenty. Thanks also goes to our sponsors Harrison Oils and Massey Feeds.
Top price of the day went to the first prize pen from AC&K Pye, Dunkenshaw with these achieving £270, whist £240 was achieved by WI&AM Atkinson, Holme House and Calderside Farm. A&L Huddleston, Overhouses sold his run of ten to £230 and at £225 was W&A Cornall, Bank Farm. Any number of top pens were over £200, with Drinkall Bros, Catshaw Hall Farm £210 and both R Lawrence, Greaves Farm and B&SE Carter, Cragg End at £205.
The second sale of breeding sheep saw nice farming Mule shearlings sell to £200, with older Mule ewes to £145. Texel cross ewes to £130 and Texel rams sold to £500.
The next breeding sheep sale is the annual ‘Hill Fair Day’ on Saturday 5th October, entries for this sale close on Friday 27th September.
