PRIME LAMBS
Well meated fed lambs are now coming forward in greater numbers, selling to a top of 351p/kg from PJ&ES Rogerson, Appleby with others regularly 320p/kg to 325p/kg. The best first cross lambs were 290p/kg to 310p/kg, with others directly of grass and perhaps lacking the final finish 270p/kg to 290p/kg. Hill bred lambs sold to 293p/kg for Cheviots from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead, with Mules to 268p/kg from TA&JA Dixon, Selside and Swaledales to 264p/kg for a ring full from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
TR Prickett, Hutton Roof topped todays sale with Texel cross lambs at £166. Endless pens of well bred and well finished heavy weights were £145 to £160. The best standard wights were £124 to £136, with lighter weight lambs to £113. Heavy weight Cheviots sold to £143 from AG Butler, Hambleton, Mules to £127.50 from TA&JA Dixon, Selside and Swaledales to £117.50 from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
To maximise returns vendors are strongly encouraged to feed their lambs, to meet buyers requirements. Next week all prime lambs will require belly clipping, as this is now required by the food standards agency.
CAST EWES
As ewe numbers tighten nationally, trade remains buoyant with all classes and types easily sold each week at Lancaster. The strongest cross breds sold to £177 from KA Purtill, Wigan with other better medium types £128 to £145, and smaller and leaner continental cross ewes £88 to £110. Mules sold to £158 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth with a ring full of heavy weight Mules selling to £130 from C&B Lowther, Over Wyresdale. Stronger Mules were £115 to £128, with mediums £96 to £110. Stronger hill ewes sold to £82 for Swaledales, with lighter weight leaner sorts £38 to £50.
STORE LAMBS
The fortnightly sale of store lambs saw an abundance of buyers ring side all keen to fill trailers. The sale topped at £115 for Texel cross from I Richardson, Catford with Suffolks to £111 from M&L Coooper, Preesall and other Texels £110 from DM Eames, Abbeystead. An entry of predominantly longer keep lambs sold to a keen interest, with an overall sale average of £91. More lambs are required at the next sale on Monday 25th November, please advise the office of entries.
