A high quality show of calves saw an ever increasing ring side of buyers present. The best rearing calves sold to £425 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from AD&RL Milner, Claughton on Brock. Month old Limousin cross sold to £385 from TA&RM Dawson, Quernmore and three week old British Blue cross to £360 from Walmsley Beef, Cockerham. Diary bulls sold to £365 for an eight week old Fleckvieh from J Daniels, Preston. Young dairy bulls sold to £95 for a Montbeliarde from GJ&G Billington, Garstang.
Heifer calves sold to £410 for an eight week old Limousin cross from J Daniels, Preston with month old British Blue cross to £350 from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe and Aberdeen Angus cross to £245 from Walmsley Beef, Cockerham.
An entry of 25 weaned and reared calvers saw three month old British Blue cross steers sell to £590 with others at £585 and £560. British Blue heifers sold to £490, £480 and £460.
Weaned Hereford heifers sold to £425 and bulls to £415. Twelve week old black and white steers sold to £280.

CAST COWS

Beef cows sold to a top of 219.5p/kg for a British Blue cross from T&S Blades, Arkholme with Limousin cross to 214p/kg from CA&J Atly & Son, Carnforth. Other beef cows were regularly 190p/kg to 205p/kg. Top grossing beef cow achieved £1494 from T&S Blades, Arkholme. Dairy cows sold to 179p/kg for a Holstein Friesian from H Halhead & Son, Carnforth with other heavier end 165p/kg to 175p/kg, medium types 145p/kg to 160p/kg, with only the smallest and lightest less. Top grossing dairy cows achieved £1329 from TA&RM Dawson, Quernmore.
OTM beef heifers sold to 259.5p/kg for British Blue cross from W Pinder Jnr, Clitheroe. Stabilizers £1554 from RW&FJ Rhodes & Son, Quernmore. Dairy heifers sold to 247.5p/kg and £1683 from H Halhead & Son, Carnforth.
OTM steers sold to 259.5p/kg for a British Blue cross from A Kirkby & Co, Pilling with Holstein Friesians selling to £1609 from AT Burrow & Son, Gressingham.

STORE CATTLE

Once again, a fast and competitive trade was seen for all classes of cattle, with heifers to £1800 for Aberdeen Angus cross from J&M Maudsley & Sons, Endmoor with other stronger end heifers £1480 to £1620. A keen interest in those suitable for summering, with these regularly £1250 to £1400.
Steers sold to £1780 for a ring full of Charolais cross from GT&CA Blezard, Conder Green, with other stronger steers regularly £1550 to £1750. Steers suitable for summer grazing were regularly £1350 to £1500.
The monthly sale of stirks saw a large ring side of buyers all keen to secure stock ahead of turnout. Stirks sold to £1030 for a ring full of Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Booker, Radcliffe with others at £1010 from G&D Ball & Son, Little Eccleston. Other eight to ten month old steers were regularly £800 to £1000, with younger six to eight month olds £740 to £820.
An entry of predominately younger heifer stirks sold to £790 for an eight month old Aberdeen Angus cross from D&J Hay, Cockerham. The consignment of well reared seven to eight month old British Blue cross heifers from Throstle Nest Farm, Pilling sold to £750, with others at £730. Younger native sired heifers were generally £580 to £660.
35 feeding bulls were forward which sold to £1280 for a ring full of Limousin cross from I Atkinson & Son, Carnforth who sold others at £1160. Younger seven month bulls sold to £840 for Charolais cross from W Pinder, Clitheroe with others generally £720 to £780 (five to seven month old).
