Christmas cheer at North West Auctions Lancaster!
The pre Christmas sale of prime lambs saw a fast trade, with all vendors leaving with festive cheer from sparkling prices achieved. An overall market average of 332p/kg was achieved for lambs and £134 for ewes.
CULL SHEEP
Cull ewes sold to a top of £208 for a Texel cross from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock with other stronger first cross ewes £175 to £200, mediums £145 to £160 and the leaner end £115 to £125. Mule ewes sold to £171 for a pen full from DR Preston, Caton, with other stronger end £150 to £165, better mediums £130 to £145 with lighter weights £115 to £130. Pure hill ewes sold to £176 from DR Preston, Caton and horned ewes to £118 from S&J France, Over Wyresdale.
PRIME LAMBS
Prime lambs sold to a top price of £183 for heavy weights Texel cross from J Bargh & Son, Morecambe who sold others at £179, as did TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Others achieved £176 from KA Purtill, Wigan, £172 WB Kellett, Pilling and AG Butler, Hambleton. Best standard weights sold to £167 for Texel cross from PD Anderton, Scorton with others regularly £155 to £162. Lighter weights sold to £140 for Texel cross from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof.
A top price of 370p/kg was achieved by TR Prickett, Hutton Roof selling Texel cross who also sold others at 368p/kg, with KA Purtill, Wigan selling to 367p/kg and AG Butler, Hambleton 364p/kg. Well finished lambs were regularly 335p/kg to 350p/kg depending on weight.
Mules sold to £160 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale with others at £158 from JC Hodgson, Dent. Others were generally £140 to £150, topping at 328p/kg for a ring full from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale. Other pure hill breds saw Cheviots sell to £143 and 340p/kg.
