SPRING LAMBS
The spring lamb trade is on the up, with an overall averaged of 334p/kg. Best bred lambs were regularly selling at 350p/kg plus. The sale peaked at £160 for Charollais lambs from the Archer’s at Redbank, Bolton le Sands. Other Charollais sold to £154 from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with this home having numerous pens at £150 plus. Top price for Kilogram was £3.60 for smart Texel hoggs from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth.
More lambs are required on a weekly basis for our active ring of nine buyers.
PRIME HOGGS
A smaller entry of hoggs were forward with more interest from buyers, ensuring a bumper averaged of 298p/kg. Heavy hoggs would be the sharpest trade of the day with pure Texels from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping selling to £208 twice. A pen of ten Beltex hoggs from T Taylor, Woodplumpton selling to £197. Heavy hoggs regularly sold at the £170-£180 mark. Cheviot hoggs sold to a top of £162 from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet with other Cheviot hoggs selling to £158 from J&H Davis, Nateby. Mules saw a top of £140 from F&SG Sanderson, Woodplumpton with other full pens from this home selling to £138.50. A pen of 44kg Herdwick hoggs from A&V&A Thornton, Cockerham sold to £124.50.
All vendors left with a smile on their face today, with more hoggs needed on a weekly basis.
CAST SHEEP
A sharp trade for all ewes forward, with Texel ewes selling to £150 from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Other Texel ewes sold to £140 from JM Sanderson, Halton. Mules topped at £128 from RW&FJ Rhodes & Son, Quernmore. Hill ewes saw cheviots sell to £118 from T Foster, Preston and Rough Fells to £96 from PG Thornton, Scorton.
SHEEP WITH LAMBS AT FOOT
Beltex shearlings with Texel twin lambs sold to £260 from RM Gornall, Forton. A run of aged Texel ewes with single Texel lambs sold to £215 from G Hargreaves, Scotforth. Please enter sheep with lambs with confidence at Lancaster, we have a full ring side of buyers all keen to purchase.
