Prime Hoggs
There was an entry of 580 prime hoggs forward at Lancaster, selling to an overall market average of 219p/kg. Heavy weight hoggs continue to add up best, peaking at £142 from Sam Ayrton, Thurnham for Texels who sold other Texel to £129 twice and also topped the Suffolk section at £121.50. Heavy weight Texels from AG Butler, Hambleton peaked at £140, who also sold other heavy weight Texels to £123 and £120. Heavy weight Texels from J&E Nuttall, Old Hutton sold to £133. 48kg Texels sold to £125 from JS Horner, Ingleton who sold another pen of 45kg Texels to £120. Plenty more pens sold in the mid to late teens.
Continental lambs peaked at 282p/kg for 43kg hoggs from AG Butler, Hambleton grossing at £121. Plenty more pens sold around the 250p/kg mark.
Once again, a good showing of upland hoggs in Lancaster today with heavy weight Mashams peaking at £120 from T&D Wright, Roeburndale East followed by other pens to £117 from A&MA Wright, Roeburndale East. Heavy weight Mules twice peaked at £119 from T&H Drinkall, Oakenclough with other pens of Mules to £103 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale and £112.50 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale. Horned hoggs saw Swaledales sell to £95.50 at 43kg from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale.
Cast Sheep
An entry just shy of 100 cast sheep were forward today which sold to a very similar trade to the previous weeks as the numbers of ewes nationwide remain firm. A pure Texel ewe from Niyah Johnston, Bay Horse sold to the top price of the day of £154. This was followed by the consignment from W&A Cornall, Barnacre selling Texel x ewes to £142 and Leicesters to £130 with plenty more Continental ewes selling between £100 and £120 pounds. Texel tups sold to a top of £120 from D&J Hay, Cockerham. Cheviot Mule ewes peaked at £92 from T&L Kirkham, Eccleston with Mule ewes selling to the same price from Sam Ayrton followed by other Mule ewes to £90 from T&L Kirkham. Swaledale ewes peaked at £50 from W&A Cornall.
