Prime Lambs
Lancaster saw an increased entry of 1005 prime lambs forward today, with the market trend remaining similar. Good confirmation, well finished and heavy weight lambs continue to be eagerly bid for by our busy active ring of nine buyers with leaner lambs penalised.
The market peaked at £157 for a heavy weight Suffolks from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock whom sold Texel to £148, £146 and £134. Texel peaked at £148 from J&L Howard, Cockerham with Suffolks from the same home to £144 and £140. Heavy weight Texel from JM&MH France & Son, Littledale sold to £146, £140 and £134. Other leading prices for heavy weight lambs saw Texels to £144 from David Hough, Dolphinholme with Continentals to £136 from JET&AEA Hull, Winmarleigh. Shapier 50kg Texels sold to £132 from B&SE Carter, Ellel followed by £130 from J Pinder & Sons, Clitheroe. Plenty more pens of lambs regularly sold in the one twenties for lambs with weight and well finished, this speciation of lambs averaging 242p/kg. Best confirmation lambs sold to 291p/kg for Texels from JR&LA Capstick, Killington followed by Dutch Spotties to 291p/kg from AD&EJ Leak, Conder Green. Better confirmation lambs sold in excess of 270p/kg.
There was a larger quantity of hill lambs forward today which saw 51kg Mules to £114 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale with 50kg Mules to £110 from T&H Drinkall, Oakenclough. Swaledale lambs forward today saw 40kg tups to £79 from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
Cast Sheep
The cast sheep trade has turned a corner with the trade slightly sharper today in Lancaster, pure Telex ewes sold to £150 from B&M Slater, chipping with Texel x ewes to £148 twice and £130 from AG Butler, Hambleton. Plenty of Continental ewes sold in the region of one hundred and twenty pounds. Heavy weight Mules sold to £109 from Pilling Hall, Pilling with other strong Mule ewes around the £100 mark. There was a large quantity of goats on the market selling to £98 from M&L Cooper, Preesall.
