North West Auctions Lancaster were proud to host its annual show and sale of 1500 Mule gimmer lambs, consisting of a large quantity of NEMSA lambs. There was plenty of strong tupping lambs on offer today with a good ringside of buyers from local and far away. The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Andrew Geary, Milton Keynes and Derek Clarke, Barnacre who we thank for their time and expertise. A special mention goes to our sale sponsor Wadland Finance. The Alf Burrow cup for the champion pen of ten Mule gimmer lambs was awarded to T Ayrton & Son, Over Wyresdale which went on the sell for £175. The first prize pen of twenty was awarded to W&A Cornall, Barnacre which went on to sell for £155. Top pens of ten were in big demand with plenty of people looking to purchase good quality breeding sheep. The sale peaked at £180 on three occasions from RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead, B&SE Carter, Ellel and W&A Cornall, Barnacre. Other leading prices saw AC&K Pye, Abbeystead sell to £172, A&L Huddleston, Wray to £162 and Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale to £160. Plenty more pens of strong tupping lambs sold between the £130-£150 mark. The overall market average was £120.33.
The fifty pound prize for the vendor with the highest average for a run of fifty lambs, not to include a prize winning pen was awarded to WI&AM Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale selling fifty lambs to average £143.20.
