Prime Lambs

Lancasters weekly sale of prime lambs had an entry of 944 forward, selling to an overall market average of 225p/kg which included just shy of 600 Mule and Horned lambs. The consignment from Andrew Butler led the way selling to £137, £134 twice, £130 and £128. This was followed by the consignment from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock selling to £135 and £130 with other Texels to £134 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. The consignment from Sam Ayrton, Thurnham sold to £128.50 for Texels and £128 for Suffolks. Other Texel lambs selling to £128 was the consignment from Pilling Hall, Pilling. Heavy weight Mules peaked at £123 from JR Capstick, Ingleton whom sold Leicester to £121. Other leading prices for Mules saw £116.50 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale with others to £116 and £115 from JR&LA Capstick, Killington with plenty of pens of heavy weight Mules around the £110 mark. A shortage of butcher quality lambs on the market today saw best types selling in excess of 300p/kg from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with others around the 290p/kg mark.

Cast Sheep
A shaper trade for cast sheep saw an entry of 181 forward with the trade peak at £150 from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock for a Texel, this home also sold Suffolk ewes to £148. A consignment of Dutch Spotted ewes from KP Dagger, Catterall sold to £148. Texel x ewes from JE Parkinson & Son, Quernmore sold to £142 and £136 with plenty others around the £130 mark. Mule ewes topped at £113 from DJ Clarke Farming, Barnacre with others to £108 from P Rossall, Scorton and many more over £100. Cheviot ewes sold to £112 and £110 from A Riley, Brookhouse with Horned ewes peaking at £85 from FK&F Woodhouse, Scorton and Lonks to £84 from D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe.
