Dairy Dispersal sells to £2200 at NWA Lancaster
On Tuesday 7th September, North West Auctions conducted the dispersal sale of the dairy herd on behalf of Messrs Sharp, Langthwaite Ltd, Millom, who took the recent decision to retire from dairy farming. This most genuine herd of cows attracted interest from throughout the Northern counties, Cheshire and North Wales all keen to secure additional stock.
The sale saw a top price of £2200 achieved for a new calved heifer, 10 days into her lactation, this was closely followed by a fresh 3rd calved cow giving 46 litres and achieving £2120. Other new calved heifers and those recently served sold to £1900 (x2) with others generally £1450 - £1700. Cows sold to £1820 for 2nd calvers, £1700 for 3rd calvers with older cows to £1580 for 4th calvers.
In-calf cows also sold to £1580 for a cow due the end of October to sexed semen with others generally £1000 - £1350 to a British Blue bull.
Statistics
141 dispersal cattle (including faults) averaged £1225.
