The pre-sale show this month was judged by Mr Mark Cornthwaite of the Kirkwood herd, Nateby. From a show entry of 19 the Champion was found in lot 9, Carwood Rubicorn Honeybee 125 consigned by B&V Swan, Brindle, with the reserve rosette awarded to Garsby Mopan Pearl shown by W&G Cornthwaite, Garstang.
The sale saw a top price of £2520 achieved by JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore selling Quernmore June 134, closely followed by neighbours JT&B Fox, Quernmore selling Blackwood Embla 550 at £2500. Other heifers sold to £2480 from W&G Cornthwaite, Garstang, £2350 Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham, £2320 GH&R Eccles, Chorley. Heifers generally selling today at £1850 - £2000, with all sold averaging £1931.
Cows sold to £1780 for Sweetings Kingstar Spunk, fresh into her 2nd lactation from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham. Followed by Billincoat BR Robina from GJ Mutton & Sons, Barrow in Furness. All cows averaged £1645.
Another entry of heifer calves from the Denhamhill herd consigned by RH&R Eccles, Chorley sold to £400 with others at £380, £350.
The next sale of dairy cattle at Lancaster Auction Mart is on Tuesday 14th December to include the Christmas prize show and sale.
