Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep, 15th November 2021

PRIME LAMBS

Lancaster held its weekly sale of prime lambs with a reduced entry forward this week of 651 but there was certainly no reduction in trade with an impressive overall market average of 267p/kg and an SQQ of 274p. All lambs forward averaged just a few pence short of £120 a head.
Beltex lambs led the way in Lancaster selling to £148 weighing 50kgs from Kevin Purtill, Wigan which were purchased by Michael Lomax on behalf of Mckuhens Butchers, Liverpool. Texel lambs topped at £146.50 weighing 57kg from J Whewell, Scorton. Texels also topped the pence per kilo today selling to a top of 310p/kg or £145 from T&L Kirkham, Eccleston. Suffolk lambs peaked at £138 from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham. Plenty pens of heavy weight lambs regularly selling in the region of £140. Handy weighted lambs in Lancaster today have been a sharper trade, with well finished continental lambs regularly selling between 270-280p/kg. Mule lambs this week peaked at £144 weighing 59kg from S&J France, Over Wyresdale purchased by George Blacklidge, with Masham lambs from the same home selling to £132.50. Other noted prices for Mules were £129 weighing 49kg from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasedale. All Mules forward in the market today averaged £118.86.

CAST SHEEP

There was an increased entry of over 80 cast sheep forward today that were met with an ever-increasing trade, leading the way today was Texel ewes selling to £139 from R&B Parker, Killington. Followed by the consignment of Charollais x ewes from Helme & Proctor, Grimsargh selling to £116 twice and £113, with plenty of pens of continental ewes easily selling in excess of £100. Mule ewes sold to £101 from T&L Kirkham, Eccleston. Horned ewes peaked at £75 for Lonks from A Brown, Littledale.
