Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep, 1st November 2021

Prime Lambs

Lancaster had a smaller offering of lambs following this weekend’s horrendous weather but it didn’t dampen the trade with an improved market average of 240p/kg or £109 to include plenty of upland lambs. Heavy weight lambs this week sold in excess of the £130 mark topping at £135 from JW & DL Park, Ellel with 52kg Continentals. Leading prices for Texels was £134 from M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale weighing 50kg, £133 at 56kg from JS Horner, Ingleton with 50kg Beltex lambs from the same home selling to £130. Suffolk lambs peaked at £131 from JR & A Thornton, Winmarleigh weighing 53kg. There was plenty more pens of well finished Continental and Suffolk lambs selling well into the one hundred and twenties. Beltex lambs sold to 310p/kg from W & D Bradley, Goosnargh with others from the same home selling to 290p/kg. Plenty pens of better conformation lambs selling in the region of 280p/kg.
Great to have once again a good entry of upland bred lambs forward in Lancaster, meeting a sharper trade this week. Masham lambs took top spot selling to £119.50 from WI & A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale weighing 53kg whom sold 49kg Mules to £114.50. Mules weighing 50kg sold to £118.50 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasdale with 47kg Mules from the same home to £109 with all Mules forward averaging £104. Lonks lead the way in the Horned lamb section selling to £104.50 weighing 45kg from S Bosworth, Burnley with 43kg Lonks to £100. Swaledale lambs sold to £80.50 weighing 38kg from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
Due to the continued wet weather it is now requested that lambs are belly clipped, this service will be available every Monday but please forward your lambs early to allow extra time for belly clipping.

Cast Sheep

There was a sharper trade for all specifications of ewes at Lancaster this morning. Dutch Spotted ewes again led the way from Myerscough College selling to £132. This was closely followed by the consignment from T & H Drinkall, Oakenclough selling Leicester ewes to £118. Mule ewes sold to a top of £92 from Myerscough College with others to £90 from T & H Drinkall, Oakenclough plenty more pens of Mule ewes selling in the eighties. Horned ewes saw Swaledale sell to £57 from M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale with leaner types of Horned ewes noticeably dearer on the week.
