Prime Hoggs
The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs at Lancaster had a reduced entry forward this week with a larger proportion of upland bred hoggs and heavy hoggs. The overall market average was 237p/kg with a SQQ average of 242p/kg. The consignment of heavy weight hoggs from Joshua France, Pilling led the way selling Texels to £126 and £121 with Charollais to £124. Texels weighing 47kg from MP Berry, Stalmine sold to £124. The consignment of Texel and Charolais hoggs from P Lawrenson & Son, Brindle sold to £120, £117.50 and £116.50 twice followed by AT Alcock, Inskip selling Texel hoggs to £115 and £114.50.
Upland hoggs saw Mashams sell to £111 weighing 44kg from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with 43kg Mules from the same home selling to £105. Horned hoggs peaked at £91.50 from A Chard, Roeburndale.
Top pence a kilogram this week was Beltex hoggs from Jonny and Josie Smith, Brookhouse selling to 308p/kg and 297p/kg twice.
Cast Sheep
The weekly sale of cast sheep saw trade slightly easier than previous week. Cast rams topped the market selling to £120 for Charollais tups from JET Hull, Winmarleigh. The ewe trade peaked at £116 for Leicesters from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead. Texel x Mule ewes sold to £110 from JM Sanderson, Halton. Mule ewes peaked at £99 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with plenty of pens of Mule ewes selling around the ninety pound mark. Horned ewes peaked at £75 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe followed by Swaledale ewes selling to £70 from T Ayrton & Son, Over Wyresdale.
