Lancaster held its annual ‘Lancaster Lads’ sale of terminal sire breeding rams, the sale saw good quality rams in plenty of demand and eagerly bid for.
A big thank you goes to David, Karen, Henry and Freddie Swarbrick for their time and expertise, especially to the two young shepherds presenting the rosettes. They awarded the championship rosette to the Suffolk ram lamb from TA Blair, Thornton-in-Cleveleys and reserve champion to the Charollais shearling from AV Bailey, Cheshire selling to £450.
Taking top price of the evening was £1100 for the 1st prize Suffolk shearling from JH Towers & Sons, Tunstall with a much-admired powerful tup. The first prize Texel shearling from T & CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping sold to £850 with others from the same home selling to £700, £680, and £650. A consignment of Beltex and Beltex x tups from ST Birkett & Son, Carnforth sold to £850, £800 and £720. Also having a good trade with Beltex x tups was RF Towers, Wray selling their consignment of tups to £800 and £750 twice. Other noted prices for Texel tups were £650 from Harry Carter, Ellel. Charollais shearlings peaked at £550 from AS & A Lee, Arkholme followed by other Charollais shearlings to £500 from JA&R Geldard & Sons, Levens. A selective ram lamb trade saw the consignment of Suffolks from G&K Richmond, Inglewhite sell to £550 and £520.
