Champion Sells to £2300 at NWA Lancaster
The monthly sale of dairy cattle at NWA Lancaster saw a high quality catalogued entry attract buyers keen to secure replacement and additional stock.
The pre sale show saw the championship rosette awarded to Wyredale Expander Dawn 36. The cow recently classified VG85 and was shown fresh into her second lactation by M J & H Atkinson, Quernmore.
The reserve rosette was awarded to the first prize heifer Phoenix Secret C Nancy shown by A E & A Swale, Blackburn.
The prize winning pair of heifers where exhibited by W & G Cornthwaite, Garstang.
The sale peaked at £2350 for Wyredale Mopan Aster 234 from M J & H Atkinson, Quernmore closely followed by Denhamhill Marley April 5 from E H & R Eccles, Chorley achieving £2200, with £2150 achieved again by M J & H Atkinson selling Wyredale Montoya Snowflake 5, other heifers breaking the £2000 barrier included Kirkwood Kabana Isabel 2 from H & S D Cornthwaite, Garstang achieving £2100, Pennine Crocus 290 selling at £2080 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyersdale and Garsby Mopan Sylvia from W & G Cornthwaite, Garstang achieving £2020. All heifers forward averaged £2030
Cows sold to a top price of £2300 for Wyredale Expander Dawn 36 from M J & H Atkinson, Quernmore.
Several mature cows from P Fargher, IOM sold to £1200 for 5th calvers.
The sale concluded with a a Holstein bull, Denhamhill Close Shave from E H & R Eccles, Chorley which sold for a final bid of £1400.
