Sheep with Lambs at Foot Top at £120 a Life

Lancaster had an increased entry of 78 families of sheep with lambs at foot. With bidders in the market for all types, they sold to a top of £120 a life or £240 an outfit for aged Texel ewes with single lambs consigned by JW and SE Drinkwater, Quernmore, with other Texel ewes with singles from the same home achieving £230. Top price of the day this week came from K & LA Woodhouse, Scorton with a Texel cross ewe sucking twin lambs achieving £265. Aged Mule ewes with twin lambs at foot from the same home sold to £212. A flock reduction from D & J Hay, Cockerham saw Continental shearlings sucking twins sell to £250 and £240.

The trade remains very buoyant for sheep with lambs at foot with more needed each week. Entries for next week include 20 Continental ewes with Texel and Beltex lambs at foot.

Spring Lambs

Lancaster had an improved entry of 69 spring lambs forward selling to an overall market average of 346p/kg or £142.67 per head. There were more quality spring lambs on offer this week matched by more demand from our buyers.

Spring lambs sold to 405p/kg for a 38kg Texel lamb that grossed at £154 from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. This was closely followed by Beltex lambs selling to 400p/kg with the top price of the day of £164 from M Coxhead, Littlepool. Texel lambs sold to £160 from WN & D Smith and Sons, Cockerham with other Texels from the same home achieving £148. Texels sold to £150 or 385p/kg from BR & S Carter, Pilling. Other noted prices from the consignment from S Wilson and Son, Scotforth sold to £147, £143.50, £143 and £142. A consignment of Texel lambs from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe sold to £146, £142 and £140.

Prime Hoggs

Lancaster had an increased entry of 441 Prime hoggs. They continue to be in strong demand and trade remained firm. Well finished Continental hoggs easily selling beyond the 300p/kg mark, with best pens of horned hoggs also selling in excess of 300 p/kg.

The trade this week peaked at £162 for 52kg Texel hoggs from L A Bradshaw, Stalmine with others from the same home achieving £153. Another great consignment from J E Parkinson & Son, Quernmore topped at £153 with this consignment topping the p/kg this week, achieving 359 pk/g for a pen of four 39kg Beltex hoggs. Andrew Butler’s consignment topped at £150 with 50kg Texel hoggs, also achieving the £150 mark was C A Fletcher, Goosnargh. This was closely followed by the consignment from Johnny Miller, Ellel selling Texel hoggs to £149 and £148. Other Beltex hoggs to £148 from Ian Richardson, Catforth with a run of Texel hoggs from R Collinge & Son, Kirkham selling to £148, £147 and £146.

Suffolk hoggs peaked at £146 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton. Upland hoggs sold to a top of £140 weighing 45kg from PJ & P Mason, Out Rawcliffe with others from the same home selling to £137.50. Masham hoggs sold to £134 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton. The Horned hogg trade topped at £128 from CA Fletcher, Goosnargh who sold other pens to £126 and £125.50. Swaledale hoggs peaked at £121 from DC Miller, Claughton-on-brock.

Cast Sheep

Lancaster continues to have a buoyant trade for all specifications of cast sheep with well over 100 forward today. Pure Texel cast sheep led the way selling to £164 from GR & RA Surtees, Stodday. With other Texel ewes to £158 from M Coxhead, Littlepool. Beltex ewes peaked at £146 from Ian Richardson, Catforth. Plenty more Continental ewes selling in excess of the £120 mark. Continental cast tups sold to a top of £163 from FK & F Woodhouse, Scorton with Teeswater tups from the same home selling to £139. Pens of Mule ewes sold to £110 four times, firstly from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe, then S Wilson and Son, Scotforth, followed by two pens from CM & CA Jackson, Caton also achieving £110. Horned ewes sold to a top of £98 for Swaledales from TA & RM Dawson, Quernmore.
