PRIME PIGS SELL TO £142 AND 157P/KG AT NWA J36

The fortnightly sale of pigs at NWA J36 saw an abundance of buyers in attendance, keen to secure pigs of all classes and types.

The sale peaked at £142 for Large White x hogs from JM Navesey, Darwen who sold gilts at £138. Berkshire gilts from B Capstick, Sedbergh sold to £140 with others at £128. Other heavy weight boars sold to £130 from T Wilson, Cockermouth.

Medium weight Prime pigs sold to £128 for Pietrain x gilts from W Stamper, Chipping with Berkshire x gilts selling to £90.

Top p/kg today was 157p/kg for Large White gilts from JM Navesey, Darwen who sold others at 147p/kg. All Prime pigs today averaged 114p/kg or £109/head.

A single cull sow today sold at £108 or 49p/kg.

Weaners sold to £35 for Saddleback x from LC Cuthbertson, Windermere with others selling at £27 from R Dick, Freckleton.

A sow with 6 piglets attracted much interest selling at £175.
