Prime Lambs
North West Auctions Lancaster had its weekly sale of prime lambs with a few less forward this week, as the price eased at the end of the previous week. There was an overall market average of 200p/kg.
Leading the way this week was Beltex lambs selling to £121 or 263p/kg from R & DL Cornthwaite, Nateby. From the same home Texel lambs sold to 253p/kg or £116. The consignment from E Hartley, Hornby sold to £115 twice and £114, with the consignment topping at 250p/kg for Texels. Other leading prices for Texels included £117 from P & V Bennett, Aldcliffe. Charollais lambs sold to £112 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale with other pens of Texel lambs from the same home selling to £104.50 twice and £103.50. Plenty of pens of Continental lambs sold around the £100 mark. Hampshire lambs sold to £101 from WB Kellet, Winmarleigh. Suffolk lambs sold to £97 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale.
Mule lambs sold to £86.50 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale with other Mule lambs selling to £86 from RH & C Ayrton, Abbeystead.
Cast Sheep
There were more cast ewes this week that sold to stronger demand and a sharper trade. Leading the way at £123 was a Texel ewe from C Barker, Morecambe with plenty of other Texel ewes easily selling into the nineties. Mule ewes sold to £86 from WB Kellet, Winmarleigh with others achieving £83 from FW Rhodes & Son, Ellel. Strong Mule ewes regularly sold around the £80 mark.
Horned ewes sold to £66 for Lonks from KA Purtill, Wigan. Swledale ewes sold to £55 from RG & H Preece, Roeburndale with plenty of horned ewes regularly selling around the £40 mark.
