Dairies sell to £2580 at NWA Lancaster

NWA Lancaster held its monthly sale of dairy cattle on Tuesday 17th November which once again saw several new and returning customers both buying and selling at this popular sale, alongside strong local support. The pre-sale show was kindly and ably judged by C R Ford, Aldingham who had 18 cattle presented before him in the 3 show classes. The Championship rosette was awarded to Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd showing 'Bilsrow Applejax Christina’ being bred from a VG86 cow and supported by several lactations in excess of 10,000 litres; this heifer sold at £2220. The Reserve Championship rosette was awarded to the 1st prize cow from AV Lord & Co, fresh into her second lactation and giving 40 litres; she sold to the sale topping price of £2580.


A large entry of cows were forward at today’s sale being predominately part of the on-going dispersal on behalf of A V Lord & Co, selling to a top price of £2580 for the Reserve Champion with other second calved cows to £1720, third calved to £1680 and fourth calved to £1650. All cows forward today averaged £1670.
The sale of heifers saw a top price of £2220 from Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, with E H & R Eccles selling Denhamhill Ticket Duchess at £2180 followed by Bilsrow Applejax Paradise at £2150 from Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, with the last heifer of the day Quernmore Bettie 16 from J E & J Pye and Son selling at £2100.
A trio of heifers from the Pennine herd of Drinkall Bros sold at £2000 closely followed by G J Mutton and Sons selling Billincoat Brody Pearl Oma at £1980.
M J & H Atkinson sold Wyredale Control Aster 227 at £1900 with best of a pair from Stainton Hill farms achieving £1800; all heifers today averaged £1945.

The next sale is on Tuesday 15th December to include the Christmas prize show, also this sale will include a second part dispersal of in-calf cows and youngstock from Messrs Halpin, Barrow in Furness.
