Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep - Monday 2nd November 2020

Monday 2nd November 2020

Prime Lambs

The weekly sale of prime lambs at Lancaster had a reduced entry of 450. The very wet weekend and uncertainty with the second lockdown led to many deciding to see what trade was like. In the end there was a far better trade then anticipated, with an overall market average of 203p/kg and an SQQ average of 207p/kg. This included consignments of hill and horned lambs selling to 200p/kg.

Topping the market this week was the consignment of heavy weight Texel lambs from T & CM Kelsall and Sons, Chipping selling to £116, £110 and £109. A consignment of Dutch Texel lambs from GR & A Foy and Son, Conder Green sold to £115, £104 or £100. This consignment sold to a top p/kg of 244, 242 and 240. Others sold to 241p/kg from JE Parkinson and Son, Quernmore with Beltex lambs. Handy weighted lambs are still in strong demand with Continentals selling between 210p/kg and 225p/kg.

More hill lambs were forward today and saw Mules selling to £89 from RG & H Preece, Roeburndale with others to £88 from M & L Preece, Kirkby Lonsdale. Cheviot lambs sold to £84.50 weighing 41kg from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead whom sold 38kg Swaledales to £76.50. Gritstone lambs weighing 40kg sold to £83.

Cast Sheep

There was another good offering of 150 ewes and rams forward this week which saw larger ewes sell to a stronger trade in which more could have been sold with consignments of big Continental ewes averaging over £100. The consignment from JM Sanderson, Halton led the way topping at £126 with others from the same home to £106, £105 and £104 three times with plenty more Continental ewes around £100. Llyen ewes sold to £98 and £97 from JM & MH France, Littledale. Mule ewes sold to £85 and £84 from JM Sanderson, Halton with stronger Mule ewes selling into the seventies.

Hill ewes saw Cheviots sell to £77. Horned ewes sold to £64 from S Bosworth, Burnley whom twice sold Swaledale ewes to £48. Swaledale tups sold to £80 from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
