Lancaster Livestock Auction: Store Cattle - Friday 21st February

Calves Topped at £490 at Lancaster

Store Cattle

There was an increased entry of Store Cattle forward at Lancaster that continue to sell to a similar strong trade. Limousin bullocks lead the way this week peaking at £1290 from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland. Also achieving £1290 was EJ Ward & Son, Nether Kellet with their Limousin bullocks with Simmental bullocks from the same home selling to £1250. Other Continental bullocks saw British Blues to £1260 from R & DM Rossall & Son, with Limousin selling to £1260 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. Fleckvieh bullocks peaked at £1200 from TJ Lloyd Farm, Settle. Angus bullocks peaked at £1200 from PD Anderton, Scorton with plenty more strong bullocks selling in the mid-eleven hundreds.

Heifers peaked at £1150 today for Angus’ and Limousins from L Parsons & Sons, Levens with British Blues to the same price from R & DM Rossall & Son, Pilling. There was plenty of strong heifers selling in the early eleven hundreds.

Black and white bullocks peaked at £1120 from JM & AG Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Others sold to £1070 from L Parsons & Son.

All bullocks averaged £1040.97 with heifers averaging £959.79.

OTM Cattle

An entry of 99 Cast Cows this week saw a continued strong trade at Lancaster in which more are required each week. Once again, a strong market average of 121.9p/kg was achieved. Leading the way was OTM British Blue steers selling to 181.5p/kg or £1352 from WS Burrow & Sons, Silverdale. This was closely followed by Angus bullocks to £1236 or 154.5p/kg from RJ Cardwell, Esprick. Black and white OTM Heifers sold to a top of 164.5p/kg or £1087 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe.

Cast cows sold to a top of 174.5p/kg or £1108 for Blondes from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale. Plenty of OTM Beef cows selling around the 150p/kg mark. Black and white Cast Cows sold to top of 134.5p/kg from R Packham & Son, Docker with top-grossing black and white being £1050 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe. Plenty of black and white cows sold in the £900 region.

Calves & Stirks

Lancaster weekly sale of Calves, once again, had a strong entry with 104 calves and weanlings forward. There was a strong trade for all specifications with these numbers required each week. A fantastic Charolais bull calf at 1 month and 29 days attracted much interest that sold to a top of £490 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. There is a strong demand for these top-quality calves at Lancaster and more are required. Angus bull calves peaked at £350 from J & G Thornley, Kirkham. The consignment from T & CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping saw British Blue bulls to £340 with Angus bull calves to £330 twice. The consignment from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale saw Angus bull calves sell to £305 and British Blue heifers to £290. There were numerous more beef calves selling in excess of £250.

There as an improved black and white trade this week with more demand ringside that saw strong calves to £120 and £95 from Wallbank Farms, with others to £115 from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green.

A consignment of weanlings this week from R Dick, saw 3-month-old British Blue bulls sell to £380 and £345 with all weanlings eagerly bid for.
