Prime Lambs

A far better trade than what could have been anticipated at Lancaster with the uncertainty of wagons struggling to get abroad and the continued struggles with Covid. The entry of 548 Prime Lambs sold to an overall market average of 204p/kg and a SQQ average of 208p/kg. Butcher type lambs continue to be in demand selling to 259p/kg or £106 from AG Butler, Hambleton purchased by Plumgarths Farm Shop, Kendal. Other lambs from the same home sold to £101 and £98. A consignment from CA Fletcher, Goosnargh sold to a top of £104 for Texel’s with others selling to £100. Continental lambs well fleshed and at handy weights often sold between 215p/kg-225p/kg. Horned lambs peaked at £86 from R Capstick and Son, Ingleton.

Cast Sheep

Cast Sheep trade really does remain buoyant with a few more in the market of 135. James Sanderson, Halton twice topped the market selling pure Texel ewes to £126 with Texel rams also achieving £126. Other Texel ewes sold to £124 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe with others to £119 from MP Berry, Stalmine. Plenty of continental ewes regularly selling in excess of £100.
Leicester ewes peaked at £112 from AC & K Pye, Abbeystead with tups to £106 from the same home. Mule ewes topped at £100 from H Birkett and Son, Overton with others selling to £96 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Strong mule ewes often selling in the nineties. Dalesbred ewes sold to a top of £73 from R Capstick and Son, Ingleton. All cast sheep forward averaged well into the seventies with over half the sheep forward horned ewes.

Store Lambs

Lancaster fortnightly sale of store lambs had a much reduced entry forward selling to a top of £76 from DJ Hay, Cockerham.
