Lancaster Auction held its annual Lancaster Lads sale of terminal sire breeding rams on Thursday 20th August. There was very much a two-tier trade with buyers looking to purchase powerful good conformation tups, which were eagerly bid for with the second tier tups making realisation.
Topping the market was a power Texel tup from S & G Mellor, Stoke-on-Trent selling to £800 with his pen of Texel shearling tups averaging £700. This was closely followed by T & CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping selling their consignment of Texel tups to a top of £700. Others from the same home sold to £600 with T & CM Kelsall’s pen averaging £580. This was followed by £650 for a Texel shearling from M & S Blease, Dock Acres with other consignments of Texel tups topping at £600 from ST Birkett & Son, Carnforth. Beltex tups sold to a top of £550 from Jeff & John Bargh, Heaton with Oxcliffe. Suffolk tups sold to a top of £650 from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall with others from the same home selling to £600 with their pen of shearling tups averaging £625. Other noted prices was £500 for Blue Texel shearlings from Matthew Benson, Ulverston with Charollais twice peaking at £400 from MS & A Lee, Arkholme and JA & R Geldard & Sons, Levens.
Aged tups sold to a top of £500 for Texels from ST Birkett & Son, Carnforth with aged Suffolks to £450 from JH Towers & Son. Suffolk ram lambs sold to £450 from G & K Richmond, Inglewhite with other Suffolk lambs to £400 from TA Blair, Thornton with Cleveleys.
