Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of Prime Lambs at Lancaster had an entry of 395 forward selling to an overall market average of 160p/kg and an SQQ of 163p/kg, in line with other markets on the day. Buyers today were looking for well-finished lambs and showing caution towards leaner types. Topping the market today was heavy weight Texel Lambs from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale selling to £83. Heavy weight Suffolk lambs sold to a top of £82 from RS & IM Kellet, Cockerham. A consignment of Texel lambs from J & R Waller, Killington saw 46kg sell to £80.50 and 45kg lambs selling to £78.50.
Cast Sheep
There was an entry of 131 Cast Ewes forward mainly consisting of hill bred ewes. Leading the way this week was Texel ewes from E Hartley, Hornby selling to £90. Other Texel ewes sold to £80 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Plenty of other Continental Ewes sold in the seventies. Mule ewes sold to a top of £61 from CM & CA Jackson, Forgelands and £59 from G Riley, Bolton-le-Sands. Horned ewes sold to a top of £42 for Swaledales from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead.
